Serendipity

I have just finished reading a little gem of a book called The Specialist by Charles 'Chic' Sale mentioned in Terry Pratchett's book  A Slip of the Keyboard, in the 'Writer's Choice' chapter.

As Sir Terry states "Strictly speaking it's the reminiscences of a privy builder, but it's really a gentle education in the nature of humour."
I cannot agree more. I would never have taken the time to read this little book had it not been highly recommended - as in "...I buy them up and press them on friends." by the great man himself. As you may have realized I am a great fan of the late Terry Pratchett. He was a brilliant satirist and his works say so much more than the surface details.

The Specialist is a tiny book 14 x 10.5 cm or in old money 51/2 x 41/4 inches, 27 pages long or short which includes the title page,a Forward and a few full page line drawings - so not a taxing volume.
I would think that any budding writer who would like to understand the nature of humour would find it quite enlightening.

oh oh..sorry folks must rotate the image
